I'm back!... with a favorite weekend find!

wow, it's been six months since my last post where to begin? well to be honest I was a little burned out from the old blog and was thinking whether to continue or close it for good. Since getting my new phone I've been Instagraming which is so much faster and and I love all the filters I can use to make the pictures pretty.  In addition I got busy with real life in the beginning of the year with the business, taxes and the usual home chores and stuff and decided to take a much needed one month vacation to my birth place- Philippines with my mom and my daughter Sofia. It was a great vacation overall and a neat experience for my daughter. Unfortunately I don't have photos to prove it as they were all accidentally deleted.:( except a couple...

 My kiddos also turned 8 last month and I planned a princess & prince theme party for them.

And in thinking of ways to resurrect this blog, I will dedicate Mondays to be a show and tell for my favorite weekend find. So here's for this weekend...

ten years

Today R and I had been married ten years.  Seems like ages ago and yet I can still remember all the details of our wedding like it just happened yesterday.  I was so smitten with Natalie Cole's song I played it over and over leading up to our big day  and also used it on my wedding video.  Thought I'd post it here to commemorate the day.

first day of school

Today is the kids first day of school.  Both are entering second grade. They told me they are both excited and nervous and I've been reassuring them that it’s ok to feel that way. I on the other hand is having the same feelings I felt back when it was their first day of kindergarten. Anxious, excited for them and sad all the same. Last night my little guy said “I will miss seeing your face mommy” it seriously melt my heart. And Sofia said she misses me so much when it rains and she’s stuck at school.  So I told them today I will go out and look for a locket for each one and put a photo of me so that they can "see" me whenever they feel lonely at school.  Sigh, kids… you can’t live with them, you can’t live without them.

About two weeks ago during Memorial Day weekend my family and I visited our local dog shelter.  The kids had been asking for a dog since their last birthday and I have been stalling- I want to make sure that they, we, are ready to take care of a dog and all the responsibilities that goes with it. So we went there on a Friday afternoon and we found this small chiuaua named Fox.  He was confiscated from an animal hoarder's home and he is rooming with two other smaller dog in a tiny cage.  He's six years old and was never potty trained and we can almost see in his eyes how neglected he has been.

Needless to say it was love at first sight, Sofia fell in love with him and we took him home the same day.  We named him Lucky (after a dearest puppy I lost a few years ago).  He didn't eat or drink the first day he was with us.  He was and still is very aloof and quiet, and everyone's doing their best to make him comfortable and to break out of his shell. I actually only heard him bark once and he does not want to go for a walk; he loves to sit and lounge on his bed most of the day.  The kids are very eager to get him to play but I'm guessing it's going to take some time.  My husband and son are talking of taking him back and getting a new one; my son says a dog that barks and runs while my daughter and I are already very attached to him and can't fathom the idea of him returning to the small, cold and dirty cage. I think he's one sweet dog, in two weeks he's completely potty trained and when he's not sitting on his bed he follows me around the kitchen. I love this tiny addition to our family.

Hello and happy Tuesday!

It felt like I lost a day or two; I wanted to take photos of my haul this weekend but yesterday I was so tired that my body just went to slumber for 7 hours after I dropped the kids off to school. I woke up at 3 p.m. and had barely  enough time to pick them up.

I'm very lucky and grateful to work from home but most of the time I can't seem to turn the switch off.  I'm sure other work-at-home-mom can relate, it's like you have a hundred things to do that are all equally important and you don't know which one to tackle first so you just run around in circles to try and get them done all at the same time. And then you get drained and burn out.  So yesterday, I felt guilty that I did not get anything done and felt the whole day was wasted.  But today I had a renewed energy and got halfway done on my to do lists. Sometimes all you need is a a long nap.

p.s. The roses was from the house where I went to buy my vintage finds this past weekend which I also used as photo prop this morning. I'll show photos of my finds later this week.

So this weekend I got the worse case of sunburn, I took the kids for a little picnic by the beach on Saturday and the weather was gorgeous. I forgot to put any sunscreen and when we got home I started itching, like I'm-going-out-of-my-mind itching, it was horrible.  The shower I took made the itch even worse and all the calamine lotion, aloe, vinegar and all kinds of potion I applied on my face and neck was not working.  The next day I was just going to stay home but hubby persuaded me to go to a swap meet then to an antique shop next to it.  I'm so glad the itching subsided by then and I was able to enjoy a little shopping and felt lucky to have found these cute finds; an owl figure made of rusty metal, a sailboat model and I think I may have started twitching and itching in excitement when I spotted this awesome starburst wall clock for a mere $24.

dotty birthday party

I was meaning to post some photos of the kids birthday party a week ago but got busy with work; this weekend I finally edit some of them and here they are. I was inspired by a dotty party theme by SAJ when I thrifted a box full of dotty pink cards from Goodwill; and as I suspected it was an easy theme and a breeze to plan.  Dotty cakes, dotty balloons, dotty cupcakes, ham and pepperoni pizza, gumballs and a jumpy house and the kiddos had so much fun.

T'was sort of a long week last week, spring break snuck in. So much work was put on hold.

Enjoying my second cup of coffee after dropping the kids off to school. Silence is golden.

I am not even going to attempt to start my taxes now.

I need to find the extension form.

The kids are turning seven in less than a month and they want a puppy for a present. Decisions, decisions.

Why are deadlines have to be around their birthday?

Hang my laundry outside to dry, feels like spring is finally here.

a few nights ago I got some craving for some sour cream pancakes (minus the banana) and made them for our night snack. The kids enjoyed the heart shaped ones I made and requested that I take photos of them with it before chowing them down.

Recently thrifted marble lamps. 

So we had a  snow storm last week; tree brances fell; snow and slush turned to ice; I was out of active yeast to make some bread; and the power went out for a day and a half-  it was ugly.  One funny conversation with my six year old.

Jovan:  mommy when is the light coming back?

me:  very soon son, very soon...

Jovan:   I'm bored!!!!!

me:  read a book, color.

him:  but I just did!

me:  take a nap.

Jovan:  mommy, am I having a nightmare?

me:  hahahahaha!

Just a quick note to wish everyone a very merry Christmas and a happy new year! 

holiday decor

We went light with the holiday decor this year, I got a three-foot fake tree from Goodwill for a couple of dollars, strung some lights and a few ornaments on it and called it a day. I love the two vintage wreaths pictured above (also found at Goodwill) and put them in my living room along with the stockings.  We also hang some of the kids artwork on the wall. Simple is good.

red and blue finds and name game

While my mind was to fill the shop with orange, black and dark spooky items for the upcoming halloween season;  it is the bright and colorful shades of red and blue that has been  showing up during the last few weeks of thrifting it seems.  The blue lamp and doggie poster was an auction haul from a few weeks ago. 

And just this weekend during a quick stop at a nearby thriftstore, I found this pair of navy wooden clogs.  It's a little snug when I wear socks but I love the perforated look so I bought them anyway.

I also found this really nice modern framed poster from a recent auction and I really love it, I may keep it for a while (sorry folks).

And a large red and white model boat that I been meaning to list.  And since we are on the subject of primary colors, here's a fun fact:

My youngest brother has three boys and he all named them with the three primary colors.  The eldest was born ten years ago and he named him Red, we thought, ok...cool... then his second boy came and he named him Blue, then we start protesting to no avail and the third came just a couple of months ago and we thought Oh NO!!! Green?!?!

Isn't it crazy? Pilot Inspektor, Apple, Maddox all of sudden sounded so yesterday and normal.
