dark finds

Dark and moody was certainly the theme of my antique shopping over the weekend. While I normally pick bright and colorful objects it was the black items I was drawn to from an antique shop I went to on Saturday.

So there’s this new shop I recently discovered who had a “haggle sale” over the weekend, and I went there on Saturday to haggle, or more like made small awkward talks to the dealers and let me just say that haggling should only be done via online (like make an offer on Ebay) where you are not to see the person’s facial expression, cause let me tell you haggling can make a very tricky and uncomfortable conversation.

I picked up a few things (pictured above) and only realized I had mostly black items when another customer commented if I am decorating a room and how interesting it will be with all the black items I am buying.

P.S. This post is linked to ATG's Thrift Share Monday.

  1. It makes a striking grouping too! Haggling has never been my style. I just give them whatever's marked. Even at flea markets! Good job though!

    2. Love the black items...and love haggling. I was nervous about the reaction thing in the beginning. I quickly learned to get a pile of items together, figure out what I want to pay and ask them for $5-10 less than my bottom price and I call it a "lot price". Almost always the seller will ask for $5-7 more and then I get it for just what I planned to pay.

  3. i LOVE the black! and haggling...trust me, it gets easier over time. sometimes it's totally not worth it, but sometimes its the biggest rush EVER! i love it -- and i've been haggling for over 10 years so i know when to hold um and know when to fold um. =)

  4. I am not a good haggler either. We had a garage sale once, and I found it terrifying being on the sales side too! People offer pennies. I love your vignette of dark items. I have had that experience too, where I unknowingly create a "theme."

  5. What an amazing vignette, I like how the items are all from different eras and are different styles but all work together due to the color scheme.
