So this past weekend I promised myself not to go to any thrift store having just been to an auction last week and splurged a little (darn those accidental bidding). But I had to pick up my mom from work the other day, and she works at Goodwill and I can’t just pick her up without going in and looking around the store. They were putting some stuff out and someone who had a vast collection of S&P shakers just donated a whole big box, I don’t have the urge to start collecting shakers just yet but I can’t resist these cute ones so I snatched them up along with some yellow and blue goodies (another post on these later). Look for them in the shop soon.

snack time

Despite a terrible migraine yesterday I managed to stopped by a local thrift store after dropping the kids off to school. The quick 20-minute shopping yielded some neat finds of which centered around 'snack time'.

I found these lovely set of peach lustreware eggnog cups (I know they're eggnogg cups because they were sitting next to a matching large punch bowl with 'eggnogg' written on it with which an older lady inconspicuously grabbed the bowl while I was loading my cups in my cart, the nerve!)

Then I found this olive green retro thermos by Alladdin with lovely details.

And this set of four clear glass candy dish with ruffled edges. You may also call it a bon-bon dish if you want to get fancy.

Last but not the least, an adorable wooden cheese tray with a wooden mice! Which makes snack time fun and appetizing all at the same time.

new obsession: jadite kitchenwares

So I have been obsessing about jadite kitchenwares since I thrifted these Fire King mugs a week ago. They're in mint condition at .49 cents a piece. When I returned home I checked Ebay just to see how much they were going for these days and found these set of 6 jadite mugs currently going for $220 and the auction is not over yet.

They seem to be the hottest collectible vintage glassware at the moment. In my many hours of thrifting, there are only a handful, actually twice that I came across jadite glassware. The ones I see in the antique shops or antique mall are priced over the roof and I certainly could not afford it. I can't believe how expensive they've gotten over the years and acquiring these at reasonable price to resell is very dificult.

I'm keeping the mugs and will be the start of a collection. I'm trying really hard not to stalk ebay to look for deals, but as any seasoned collectors would say; collecting takes patience and discipline. And persistence of course, which reminds me I must find a babysitter by tomorrow to visit the estate sale this Thursday to which they apparently have tons of this stuff, I can't wait!

weekend find

I must be thinking so much about tea cups, tea pots and tea parties from my last post and this weekend came upon this exquisite vintage Imperial Russian porcelain tea set for two in mint condition. Price tag: $15!

dreaming of vintage

I live, breath and dream of vintage it seems. Like literally dreaming my vintage items at night when I go to bed. For intance the other night, I had a very vivid dream of an old framed photo which I bought long time ago but just didn’t have time to list it yet, and this pink ice cream scooper of all things. You know how dreams seemed so real but does not make sense at all once you awake? I really didn’t remember what the dream was about but these two things was stuck in my head all day long. Creepy.

Talking about bizzare happening, another kind of odd thing that happened lately was that one of the vintage purse I sold back in December 2008 came back as returned shipment just last week. The international buyer had already left me a positive feedback couple of weeks after I shipped the bag which was back in December also. So I figured, she got the item in satisfactory condition and that she was satisfied with the transaction therefore the positive feedback. So why would she return it? I am puzzled and I did emailed her about it but no reply. I don’t know maybe she didn’t really like the purse, but why didn’t she say so, and asked for a refund, or maybe give it away to her friend or sister; why go through all the trouble (paying international shipping) of sending it back to me without any explaination?! Weird!

vintage rotary phones

I love the idea of using a good old rotary phone, love the sound that it makes when dialing a number. Although I do own a couple I only use them as a decor piece and as an 'emergency' phone. I don't mind the long process of dialing phone numbers, the two things that keeps me from actually using it, is that most businesess now have an automated services and menus. And you can't use a rotary phone if you want to multi-task unless you're strap on your office chair checking emails, uploading photos and blogging simultaneously while on the phone.

I wonder if there really are still rotary phone users out there? But then again I realized there are folks that still uses typewriters...

life is like a box of chocolates

I went to my favorite thrift store yesterday as they were having a 50% sale off everything for Presidents Day. I should have known better; on holidays like this, the store was very crowded and a mess, a bunch of kids running in every direction, no available cart in sight and most of all, everything left is junk at 4:00 o'clock in the afternoon, what was I thinking?!. I found a couple of odds and ends, and as I was heading to pay, I decided to go to the linen section one more time just in case I missed something. Then I saw this red large size chocolate box all taped up on the sides, it was kind of hidden under some plastic hangers and some grungy napkins. I thought, no one had been curious to open it? I opened it and lo and behold found this rainbow of colours, stack of lovely spools of vintage thread. I was very delighted to say the least especially when I paid only half of $3.99.

Don't you just love a good deal, most especially when they are super cute and functional. I'm surprise that these wonderful vintage items are still available up for grabs, I'm tempted to keep them all for myself but I believe in karma :-), so here goes..
