mantel inspiration

I was browsing a favorite blog the other day and came across this space by Camille Price.  When I saw how she decorated her mantel with red books I knew this is how I wanted my mantel to look for the holidays.

here's a photo of Price's mantel; I love the sort of messy, overstuffed but balanced look.

holiday decor

We went light with the holiday decor this year, I got a three-foot fake tree from Goodwill for a couple of dollars, strung some lights and a few ornaments on it and called it a day. I love the two vintage wreaths pictured above (also found at Goodwill) and put them in my living room along with the stockings.  We also hang some of the kids artwork on the wall. Simple is good.

it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas...

... on my dining table that is. The other day I took my Christmas decor out off the shed and dusted the vintage ceramic trees I've collected this year, now they are sitting on my dining table ready to be photograph. I shoot a few this morning when the sun was out, and just got so excited to decorate my home for the holidays.

holiday decor

This will be the first year since the kids were born that we won't have any big tree in the house. I don't have much space for it in our small living room upstairs. Since I photograph my items almost everyday, having half of the room clear from clutter is a must. To compensate hubby placed lots of lights outside the front yard and the kids and I chose colorful holiday decor; no theme just wild mix of colors.  I also used a small tree as a centerpiece and another ceramic tree on a side table.
